Reporting Allegations of Abuse

Upon receiving an allegation of physical or sexual abuse, church leaders should promptly report the matter to local law enforcement and child/adult protective services.

Only after first reporting to legal authorities should the diocese be informed. The diocese will elicit basic factual data from the reporting church leaders, but will not act as an investigator. Civil authorities and/or independent bodies should conduct all investigations.
